Are You Ready for Camping in 2021?

Many of us are less than sad about saying goodbye to the last year that has brought so many challenges and uncertainty. And now, with a vaccine on the horizon, your free spirit is likely itching to bust out the gate! However, despite vaccines, it looks like we’ll still be in the throes of the COVID restrictions well into the new year. The good news is, we still have camping! Yay camping! That being said, what does all of this mean for your camping plans? Read on for what to expect and the how to prepare for the 2021 camping season.

Service for Your Colorado Teardrops

If you haven’t already, make a service appointment as soon as you can. As camping was so popular in 2020, many service places – including us –  will be busy getting teardrops and RVs ready for another busy year.  Plan on getting any needed services now, before spring camping. You don’t want to wait and find out you need something and have to delay or cancel a big trip.

More crowded campgrounds

With the onset of COVID and the restrictions being implemented to gain control of the pandemic, Teardrop trailer (and other RV) sales have skyrocketed. Vacation options are limited, and more people than ever are working remotely are taking this opportunity to hit the road.

People who’ve rarely camped before are taking to the outdoors for no other reason than a literal change in scenery, because stated simply, there isn’t much else to do!

According to some sources, RV and tent campgrounds will be booked out for the entire year by February, so if you are able, do some planning and make your reservations now. There are multiple reservation websites available for you to make reservations in advance and most give important COVID updates. If you can’t plan that far in advance, don’t fret. While the most desirable campgrounds may fill up quickly, you can frequently secure a site by calling last minute. Camp hosts frequently have cancelations or are able to work some magic to get you in. If you’re in a Teardrop, you’ll have multiple options that owners of large RVs don’t have, such as boondocking on BLM or other land.

COVID restrictions are still on the horizon

Vaccines are predicted to roll out in 2021, but the fact remains that there is still a lot about COVID that we don’t understand and vaccine or no vaccine, people are still going to have to protect themselves and others with face coverings and safe social distancing practices. The CDC offers guidelines for camping and classifies it as relatively low risk if you wear masks, continue social distancing, and are diligent about handwashing and hygiene. Your Teardrop can help to protect you from COVID if proper disinfecting and cleanliness are a priority. Pack a kit with hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes for surfaces, and a disinfecting spray. Plan to avoid campground restrooms, showers and laundry rooms if possible.

Hold onto hope

Depending on how the vaccine rollout progresses, camping restrictions may ease up by summer. Hold out hope that great camping opportunities like those offered by Harvest Host and other organization that offer unique camping options. In the meantime, remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there, stay safe, and healthy.
