It's Valentine's - Get Hitched!

The year’s sweetest holiday is approaching, and it’s time to celebrate that crazy little thing called love!

With temperatures at their chilliest, camping in February might not be the first thing that comes to mind as the best way to say I Love You. But for adventure-loving singles, couples, and families, winter is an excellent opportunity to visit destinations that are often oversold, overcrowded and hectic during the on-season. And what better way to cure the cold-weather blues than to hitch up and head out for a romantic winter getaway?

When I first started Colorado Teardrops, I hauled a Teardrop with me everywhere I went – it was my way of testing the market.  Yet my friends would tease me, “Dean, why do you take a Queen size bed with you wherever you go?”  As a single man, that was well targeted and funny.

But then it came in handy. It was my 2nd date, a lunch date with a woman that would become special in my life.  I picked her up from work, and we went downtown Boulder for lunch.  I was able to park on the busy Pearl Street and enjoyed a delightful meal and conversation.  As we left the restaurant, I asked my new friend, “have you ever been in a Teardrop?”  She said no, so we crawled into the Teardrop from the street side.

We sat and talked – maybe snuck a kiss or two.  It was nice to find a quiet moment alone on a busy street in the middle of the day.

Wine Country

Rolling green hills and rows of naked twisted vines lingering beneath a blanket of misty fog – nothing says romance like a winter trip to Napa Valley. Tourism is definitely down at this time of year, leaving some of the most popular campgrounds wide open. While Napa weather is usually rainy and cool in winter, it’s perfect for cozying up in your Teardrop and sharing a nice bottle of wine with your sweetie! Bonus? Napa is not only one of the greatest wine-producing regions in the world, but it is also home to numerous hot springs.

There are many other thriving wine-producing regions in the country too! The breathtaking Willamette Valley in Oregon produces world-class Pinot Noirs and other delicious wines and provides ample quality camping opportunities year-round. Washington and our home state of Colorado are also gaining notoriety in the winemaking world!

Big Sur

Located on the rugged central coast of California, Big Sur is home to some of the most stunning scenery, national parks, and campgrounds in the nation, and the town has a little bit of romantic history as well! Snuggle up with a copy of Henry and June, a juicy novel loosely based on the American author, and long-time Big Sur resident Henry Miller and his mistress, erotica writer, Anais Nin. Visit the Henry Miller Museum, sip champagne and observe whales and other ocean wildlife from the patio of Namaste Restaurant, or take a walk through a magical redwood forest. The weather is perfect for sipping cocoa around the fire at one of many of the gorgeous campgrounds in the area.

Las Vegas

Catch a show, visit a casino, and stay at one of many campgrounds in or around Las Vegas. Nights can bring chilly weather, so bring warm blankets and gear and be prepared to snuggle up with your sweetheart to stay warm! If this adventure is for you and your beloved, you might want to keep each other, so consider getting hitched by Elvis at the Graceland Wedding Chapel while you are there! Viva Las Vegas!
