Pack Up Your Teardrop Trailer and Head Out to Find – or Maybe Avoid - Fireworks this Fourth of July!

It’s that time of year again; the weather is warm, the country is celebrating a birthday, and teardrop trailer camping is in full swing. We’ve compiled a list of some cool places across the country to see the 4^th of July fireworks. And, if you’re hoping to avoid that celebration, we have some ideas for you, too!

Our best advice this year is to find a fireworks show done by professionals. Most of the really good fireworks are not made for ‘at-home’ (or at campsite) use. Also, fire bans and burn restrictions across the country will likely prohibit you from putting on your own show. Don’t take any chances. Besides, while fireworks are fun, it’s much more fun to let someone else do the work while you relax and enjoy the show.

Also, double check that any fireworks display is still happening. Fire warnings and other local concerns can cause some shows to be cancelled last-minute.

Colorado

Since Colorado is our home, we’re biased. There is not a bad spot in the whole state! But if we had to pick one or two, Estes Park would top the list. Just about the best show we can think of is watching the 4^th of July fireworks over Lake Estes. There are dozens of accompanying events – car shows, concerts and more over the weekend, so don’t miss out!

Dean’s Pick: Ouray, CO. While not a camping spot, the town of Ouray’s fireworks show is in a box canyon, and the shock wave and the sound rip up and back through the canyon. They have the parade of Jeeps roll down the mountain, and during the day, fire hose fights in the city square between two teams. It’s a lot of fun – not to be missed. Our Nation’s Capital

Check out what Washington, DC has to offer in the way of patriotic displays! Some campers might not think of Washington, DC as a prime camping spot, but there are MANY beautiful spots along and near the Potomac to catch some fireworks. Start with Urban Outdoors list for some unexpected places – some that are only accessible with a smaller overland trailer like a Colorado Teardrop,

Arkansas

Yes, Arkansas. Maybe we don’t think of Arkansas enough when we think of camping. Lake Hamilton and nearby Hot Springs National Park are both known for water-adjacent camping spots and a great 4^th of July show. This might be the spot for you if you’re packing your overland trailer with water toys. Many spots here are RV parks, so you’ll have amenities in addition to what your teardrop trailer offers. New York

Have you ever thought of the Adirondacks? New York is home to some of the best mountain views and lake-side camping spots, so why not head to the Empire State this 4^th of July? Looking to Avoid the Noise and Crowds?

We know that not everyone, or their pets, are a fan of the noise. There are plenty of great spots for you to relax and avoid the noise. One of the year’s best-rated spots is Santa Cruz Redwood RV Resort – breath-taking scenery, tons of activities and, as it is in the redwood forest, there will be no fireworks.

You’ll also find some great fireworks-free camping in Michigan. Michigan started highlighting firework-free sites in 2018, and campers loved it! Use this link to find a nice quiet spot from Sleepy Hollow State Park all the way to the upper peninsula.

There are so many great spots; we couldn’t get to them all, but you can use this National Park Service tool to find sites in your area or based on your activity of choice! Don’t forget to do some recon before heading out in your teardrop trailer. Make sure you have all the required reservations and paperwork. And, as always, pay attention to all local rules and guidelines.
