Camping Gear We Can't Live Without

Recently, we had a couple come visit us in the showroom. This couple hadn’t had been camping for many years. And while they wanted to get back into it, they admitted they were pretty clueless about 21st-century camping gear and actually intimidated by the amount of equipment out there. This got us thinking…if we didn’t have access to the newest, coolest and most cutting edge gear what would we need to make our Teardrop camping trip amazing?

Some Essentials – Whether you’re an experienced camper or just starting out, these are some things that you simply must have:

• Headlamp: even at dusk you’ll need to be able to see your way around. You should be able to pick one up for about $20
• Slip on shoes: should nature call in the middle of the night, you don’t want to have to deal with laces. Again, these can be picked up almost anywhere.
• An extra fleece or puffy jacket: even in the summer months, some places can be cooler overnight.
• Extra sealable bags: these can be used for ANYTHING – a wet swimsuit, leftover meals/snacks, trash, etc. Remember pack in/pack out, and you’ll be happy to have these baggies.

Cooking and Eating

Since one of our favorite features of our Colorado Teardrops is the galley, it is essential to stock the kitchen.  Reusable plates, bowls, cups and knife/fork/spoon sets are a must. The days of wasteful and harmful paper plates and napkins are gone. Think bamboo, metal or heavy-duty recycled plastic. Since space allows, make sure you have a pot and a skillet, a cutting board, a knife, and serving utensils.  The galley in the teardrop will also hold a box or bin of food/snacks and a cooler.  See, nothing fancy or intimidating about that.

Let’s Get Comfortable

The Teardrop fits a queen sized bed so add your favorite blankets or sleeping bag, and you’ll be cozy for sleeping.  But that doesn’t mean we need to skimp on some of the comforts of home.  Grab your favorite pillow and an extra blanket.  And even though your Colorado Teardrop is insulated and you’ll be warmer than you would be in a tent, it never hurts to pack a little on the heavy side.  Throw in a cozy hat too just in case.  Pro tip: an electric blanket for 10-15 minutes on a super cold night can be just what you need to get your snooze started.

The Reason you Camp – Relaxation

We don’t want to encourage anyone to bring too much, but since there is ample space, think about bringing a few ‘extras’ to add to your experience.  A blue tooth speaker to play for favorites tunes is a nice addition, so is a hammock.  Grab that book you’ve been meaning to start/finish as well.  Don’t forget a camp chair or two for those lazy evenings by the fire. You can still be comfortable while you unplug on your camping trip.

It doesn’t have to be intimidating or high tech. Yes, there is plenty of specialized gear out there, and we are happy to fit those items into your Teardrop. But isn’t the whole reason you go camping is to get away from some of those pressures?
