There can be no denying the numbers on the calendar and the thermometer. No doubt, cooler weather is here, and even colder weather is still coming. But that doesn’t mean you have to pack up your camping dreams until spring. As many already know, winter camping can be a whole new adventure. And it doesn’t have to mean layers of sleeping bags and waking up with frozen toes. A Colorado Teardrop camper can be just the thing to help you scratch your winter camping itch.
We’ve equipped the Colorado Teardrop with 3 layers of air tight insulation. It’s so snug, you’ll likely want to open a vent in the trailer. This doesn’t make it a great option for gas heaters. Also, that could be dicey in many cases.
For the ultimate in small camper warmth, take a look at the Truma VarioHeat heater. This little unit runs off the propane tank to provide warmth and comfort regardless of the temperature outside.
We have also included a 110V power plug. If you have power at your campsite, you’ll be able to run a space heater (just be careful) or blanket from the ship-to-shore power connection, or connected to a Goal Zero battery unit (with charged battery they output 110V, 12V and USB power).
We can also add exterior mounted heat pump/AC units that will fit 110V plugs.
Since the fun stuff rarely happens on a perfectly paved road, we make our Colorado Teardrops to be drive-able in all kinds of conditions. Not only is the axles-less suspension system good for highway, but it can also perform in most off-road situations.
Where the Colorado Teardrop really differs from others is in the tires. Some campers use cheaper tires and it shows when it comes to less than ideal road conditions. What is the fun of having a camper if it can’t come with you on your adventure? We spent some time investigating the right tires for the job.
Now, we outfit our campers with an off road tire from BF Goodrich. Its not just a good idea, its essential when you’re seeking adventure and your camper needs to come too. These tires can perform in snow, mud, rain and concrete – all the places you’re going.
We said it before, but it bears repeating…our trailers are made to last. We use aircraft grade aluminum as well as other sustainable and durable products that are impervious to water damage. And we build our campers to be solid and square…for decades (read more about it here). And you have to do your part, too.
